On 23 July, Special Olympics Nippon held a judo-themed exchange event at the Kodokan. The total number of the participants had reached up around 100, including arpund 60 judoka from Europe with intellectual disabilities, the participation of Special Olympics Nippon athletes (those with intellectual disabilities) and students. They were improving their skills and having fun into the bargain.

On 23 July, the Kodokan played host to around 60 judoka with intellectual disabilities and originally from Sweden, Norway and the Netherlands who engaged in an international exchange together with Special Olympics athletes from Kanagawa and Tokyo (with intellectual disabilities) as part of the judo program. Also,a silver judo medallist in the London Olympics, Hiroaki Hiraoka, who supports the SO activities took part in the event and showed his performance.

Feedback from Organize :

In Europe, where judo enjoys a big following, disabled people also widely participate in the judo activities. The teaching methods were fun and also helped change the image of judo itself. Although Japan is the country where judo originated, Special Olympics Nippon had just started engaging in judo from last year. Throughout the exchange event, it also spurred me on to increase the number of peers in Judo within this country too .
