Online Completion Ceremony: Physical Education Lesson Study Workshop in Arequipa, Peru

In Arequipa, Peru's second largest city, was also affected by the new coronavirus and arrangements were carried out to proceed with the online study workshop on august 3rd.
Since August 2020, all six online workshops have been streamed online from Arequipa till December 18th.
In November 2019, we formed a team of Japanese experts and Peruvian educators to hold the first online lesson study workshop in Arequipa for two days. After that, the Arequipa Physical Education Specialist Ms. Betsy Jackeline MirandaI Frisancho of the Ministry of Education of Peru who played a central role in the workshop, the Ministry of Education of Peru, the Arequipa Central Education Bureau, the Arequipa 10 Regional Education Bureau, the National University of San Agustin, the Arequipa Teacher Training School, and teachers in the field worked together to arrange a successful online study workshop.
At the 5th lesson study workshop that was held on November 28, 2020, Dr. Ken Mitsuhashi of the Hiroshima Prefectural Board of Education and Mr. Minoru Fujishima, a graduate student from Hiroshima University, gave a lecture at the request of Arequipa. It was an opportunity to present the importance and issues of Olympic and Paralympic education by taking the efforts of Hiroshima Prefecture as an example, and to think together and exchange ideas with the audience participants about the ideal way of realizing a symbiotic society through physical education.
At the 6th lesson study workshop and completion of the ceremony on December 19, 2020, the daily efforts of faculty members under the circumstances due to Corona virus and their achievements were reported. The Arequipa PE experts shared their hardships during the Corona virus pandemic in the lesson study and the teamwork that was born out of them to create better lessons. At the graduation ceremony, it was mentioned that the National University of San Agustin and the Arequipa Teacher Training School will continue to work on lesson study after 2021.

It was a very difficult situation to continue physical educational activities while being restricted from going outdoors during the strict protocols due to the Corona virus. Lesson study played a very important role, and physical education classes were all done online, from planning to practice and reflection of the contents. The online Lesson Study was 10 times longer than face-to-face preparation, but the collective efforts of educators have created a cooperative teamwork that transcends the framework of educational institutions. Through such a process, the online lesson study platform was completed.
