The A-Goal Project uses sports clubs, which are run by residents in various areas in Africa, as hubs to provide food and support programmes for preventing infectious diseases, such as distributing hygiene products and organising educational activities, to needy families in these areas. Using the power of sports and the network built through sports, the Project has gone beyond supporting the members of each club to include supporting people with challenges, the elderly and orphans who are usually difficult to reach.

We started this project providing emergency support, expecting that these community sports clubs in Africa would be able to provide support to people really in need as these clubs have already built ties with residents through sports and conducted community contribution programmes, such as giving workshops for residents on crime prevention, AIDS prevention and operating community libraries. Currently, we work with a total of 15 clubs in Kenya, Nigeria and Malawi. Using local sports clubs as hubs, rather than directly delivering support from Japan to residents, has contributed to enhancing the trust between residents and local sports clubs and the significance of sports in each community. With the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and its subsequent impact, we are providing agricultural support in Malawi, mainly to and through members of local football clubs. We will also help solve social issues in a sustainable manner by providing each country with support for women, education, economic independence and other matters.

Comment from a local club representative:

Feedback from :

This time, we were able to provide feminine hygiene products to 50 households, consisting of 15 through A-Goal donations and 35 through community donations. Hand washing tanks and chairs were provided by local residents. This project has helped increase the sense of unity among people in the community. Our club’s reputation is increasing as beneficiaries of the project are spreading the good word about the project. Some families, which did not allow their children to participate in training with our club in the past, have promised to let them participate after the pandemic subsides.
