The JSC and JRFU held a 2-day workshop for wheelchair rugby in India on February 29 and March 1, 2019. As part of the rehabilitation programme in India, the programme was to popularize wheelchair rugby and improve competitive strength.More than 20 players gathered from the precincts of New Delhi to participate in the workshop with some even travelling for more than five hours. Two specialists, a mechanic and a physiotherapist, were sent from Japan to provide guidance on rules and training methods for safe play. Since there are only a small number of sports wheelchairs in India, most of the players use their ordinary wheelchairs. At the workshop, aside from technical guidance, the players learned about the different features of sports wheelchairs as well as disability classifications so that they may be able to play rugby safely.
Note: Japan Airlines, a corporate supporter of rugby and wheelchair rugby, donated two sports wheelchairs that were transported from Japan and used for the programme.
