The exchange event was held to enhance human interaction beyond all kinds of differences and to enrich life through sports. As many as 150 people of different ages with and without challenges or experience in sports participated in the event. There were high school students from Nigeria (with some having to leave Japan during the programme to compete in the African preliminary and some chosen for J League Club membership after the programme) and also people working in Japan.
The exchange event was covered by the NHK Swahili radio programme, in which boccia was introduced as an inclusive sport frequently played in East Africa. Following the example of our event, a high school in Kanagawa prefecture held a boccia exchange event including expats. Another boccia event is planned for 2020 by the African community in Japan.
