In collaboration with the Japan Rugby Football Union (JRFU), the Japan Sport Council (JSC) has continuously undertaken programs in Thailand, Laos, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, and other countries since 2016 to promote friendly relations through rugby and enhance competitiveness in order to raise interest in the Rugby World Cup 2019 and 2020 Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Movement.
For this year’s program, the eighth program, former members of the Japanese rugby team, wheelchair rugby coaches, and an expert on sports and gender were sent from Japan to provide coaching and guidance to teams competing in the World Cup, hold rugby clinics for athletes, conduct courses on wheelchair rugby using competitive wheelchairs, and hold seminars on gender to improve environments and support participation by female athletes.Feedback from :
We shared the spirit of “no-sides” (that is, celebrating each other’s good efforts after matches without any animosity), and the spirit of one for all, all for one, a part of rugby culture in Japan, conveying the value and fun of rugby. Activities in India, an important country for the spread of rugby in Asia, will continue as an all-Japan initiative through JICA Overseas Corporation Volunteers.
