As the director of the Tanzania National Team, JICA volunteers based in TabSA (Tanzania Baseball and Softball Federation) traveled around Tanzania to disseminate activities, technical training, and athletes' excavation.

In 2017, we toured six cities in Tanzania (Mwanza, Mbeya, Kilimanjaro, Songea, Dodoma, and Zanzibar), a total of 15 times, targeting Secondary School players and under 23-year-old youth players. We also trained Tanzanian coaches in hopes that some Tanzanians will become national team coaches.

At present, we are struggling due to the lack of sport facilities and baseball equipment in schools. (We used a PET bottle lid instead of a ball, a wooden stick instead of a bat, and a recycled fishing net instead of a back net, etc.) Still, we were impressed by how the players were serious about baseball.

See below for the Japanese version.

Feedback from Local Contacts :

-It is worthwhile to understand the rules and techniques of baseball and learn the fun of playing baseball.
-As the technical level has improved, the game has become more fulfilling (the number of teams and players has almost doubled since last year. Currently, the number of players are about 400 and the number of teams is less than 20).
-Athletes' awareness has increased by experiencing international competitions.
-It is significant that the number of inexperienced players and female athletes are increasing in number.
