The Japan Sport Council and the Japan GoalBall Association collaborated to hold a workshop to introduce GoalBall in Cambodia, where GoalBall had not yet been introduced.
31 people including 8 visually impaired people participated in the workshop, and after learning the history and rules of GoalBall and how to make a court, a practical session was held. Visually impaired participants who could not see the size of the court touched the court lines to develop a sense of the court. In the practical session, participants wore eyeshades (blindfolds), threw a ball with a bell inside, and practiced receiving it with their body. At first it was awkward, but by the end of the session, impressively quick movement was developed. The Secretary General of the National Paralympic Committee of Cambodia passionately stated that his aim is for the GoalBall team to participate in the ASEAN Para Games held in Malaysia in September.
We hope that more visually impaired people will enjoy sports in the future. Also, since GoalBall can be enjoyed by people with or without visual impairment, we would like lots of people to experience it.
Feedback from Local Contacts :
Learning this new sport of GoalBall was very exciting and enjoyable. We are planning to organize a workshop to introduce GoalBall to the workplace staff immediately. We appreciate the wonderful guidance of everyone in Japan, and the provision of precious materials and tools such as rulebooks.
