Danhiko is a private college and vocational college in Zimbabwe's capital of Harare City in Africa where students with and without disabilities study together. The Japan Paralympic Committee implemented a Flying Disc Workshop in the hope of promoting the social participation of students with disabilities through the mutual enjoyment of sports with other students.

On 29th July, a member of teaching staff and 20 students (aged 12–19 years) gathered on the tennis court. Students first practised throwing and catching the flying disc in pairs from a distance of around 5 m, and then played a game in which they tried to hit targets. There were no official game targets available so they used plastic bottles instead. A note was made of the number of plastic bottles they knocked down with the discs. Students with a hand or arm disability can participate together by throwing a distance of less than 5 m.The students were creative and thought up innovations such as filling the bottles with water so that the wind would not blow them over, and dividing themselves into different groups that would line up the plastic bottles and retrieve the discs respectively. Such individual creativity is also important in terms of spreading the game.

Finally, points were used to determine the 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed participants who were presented confectionery, while a prize for taking part was also presented to each participant. The workshop proved to be a lively time that put smiles on the students' faces from beginning to end. It is hoped there will be more and more opportunities for people with and without disabilities to enjoy playing sports together that are enjoyable to all

Feedback from :

The Flying Disc game can be played by anyone, regardless of their age, size or disability, and because of this I would like it to be incorporated into the Danhiko games as an annual event. (From a Physical Education Teacher who participated in the workshop)
