Nippon Takkyu Co., Ltd. (Nittaku), aiming to prevent juvenile delinquency, a serious national social problem and targeting sound youth development through table tennis, developed social work (Nittaku Dream Project) for young people in 11 deprived area nationwide, from December 2011 to December 2013, and donated table-tennis tables, rackets, balls and uniforms, etc. in bulk.
From 2011, JICA started cooperation in the form of technical guidance by visiting active table-tennis members and since 2013, has dispatched short-term table-tennis volunteers in groups each year to provide intensive support to help promote table tennis and youth development in each region. This year is the third time for such guidance with group visits to the regions and with the participation of four short-term table-tennis volunteers, one long-term table-tennis volunteer and one youth activity volunteer, promotional activity took place in a total of seven cities, with a total of 1430 children participating. The initiative also saw rackets, rubbers and balls, etc. donated by table-tennis enthusiasts in Japan as well, in support of the above activities.
