We have practiced a P.E. class based on the “Friendly baseball style instructional materials” issued by Nippon Professional Baseball Organization. A girl in the class counted “1, 2, 3” and threw the ball in the air. It was the first time that she threw far enough to reach her friend on the other side and shouted “I did it!” with a big smile. Children who found ways to throw the ball further/hit the ball harder participated more actively in class than usual.
The lesson was based on the baseball themes “Catch”, “Throw”, and “Hit”, and as a summary, each class had a “baseball tournament” in their P.E. class. Before the lesson, we watched a DVD with the counterpart P.E. teacher and assembled the lesson to suit the children’s situations. The lessons consisted of many playful factors, and while learning throwing positions and techniques, children had many discoveries and challenges through games such as “The hand holding a ball looks like a fish, doesn’t it”, or “I did it 10 times!”Feedback from Local Contacts :
First, during the lesson we watched a DVD which let the children enjoy and have fun while learning new techniques. The lesson was very important and enjoyable throughout. We would like to share the skills and the ideas with other P.E. teachers and contribute to the development of local sports and activities.
