The national university of Chulanlongkorn, one of the highest educational institutions in Thailand, holds on-the-job training every year for in-service PE teachers in provincial cities. This year the two-day workshop took place in Nakhon Ratchasima Province, 250 kilometres northeast of Bangkok, drawing over 70 primary school and junior high teachers and people involved in education. The Japan Sport Council (JSC) has been sending instructors to this programme since 2016 to contribute to the development and prevalence of PE throughout Thailand by supporting the teachers working in the province who have fewer opportunities for training outside their schools and communities.
Professor Isamu Mitabe from the University of Tsukuba lectured on the PE curriculum in primary and junior high schools, classroom observation and evaluation using observation cards and classroom research. His specific and simple method of learning management involving the students was well received. The interactive workshop featured how to make educational tools that enable mutual evaluation. A ball game using balls made of newspaper and plastic bags was demonstrated with tips on how to effectively communicate with students as well as how to make sporting equipment using objects around us. The unique ideas attracted a high level of interest.Ms. Nantharat (a junior high school teacher)
Feedback from Participant :
I signed up for the workshop because I’m now a teacher at a junior high school, but in the future, I want to work at a primary school too. I study watching Japanese videos on YouTube so that I can introduce some of the ideas to my class. The workshop inspired me greatly with new approaches and ideas.
