The University of Tsukuba, National Institute of Fitness and Sports in Kanoya, and Japan Sport Council held the 3rd International Symposium on "International Sports Development" on December 12, 2015. The event was held for the purpose of academically and practically discussing the efforts to contribute internationally through sports, which are being implemented in Japan and overseas. A discussion-style workshop was held with presentations by five researchers and practitioners involved in the development of sports.

Presentations were made on three themes: education and empowerment, peacebuilding and disaster response, event legacy, and management.
Cases of the Homeless World Cup working on empowerment of homeless people, research cases of empowerment of women and girls through sports, research and field research of socio-psychological sports programs for former boy soldiers, international support provided by J-League were reported.
Discussions were also held in three groups in a workshop format. The content of the discussions of each group was put together as a statement of intent for the participants' involvement in sports and international development and future activities.
